Discover DH Lawrence

This is the house where David Herbert Richards Lawrence was born in 1885, and the first of the Lawrence family's four Eastwood homes. Through a guided tour you will be able to learn about his family life and the type of working class home and mining community that shaped his formative years.

Informative friendly guides will lead you through the rooms where all the family would live, as well as the communal washhouse where the Victorian housewife would spend 'the hardest day of the week'.

There is a DVD room, with a short programme on D.H. Lawrence and an exhibition room, displaying some of his original watercolours and some personal items.

Our well-stocked museum gift shop offers a varied selection of gifts, books and souvenirs, including traditional Victorian games and books by and about the world famous writer.
